There is still a lot of World War 2 unexploded ordnance hidden and buried in the most unlikely places on Braunton Burrows, so if you discover something metallic and unusual - please leave it well alone and tell the authorities.
Is illegal on Braunton Burrows for exactly the same reason as above. Friends of the Assault Training Center include experts in ordnance and ammunition and therefore hold the exclusive licence to use metal detectors and excavate historical sites.
Knowing exactly where these constructions are it is sometimes difficult to locate them under vegetation or sand, but in 2016 Training Aid #26 was located and excavated. Remnants of Bangalore torpedoes and other ordnance were found which showed it was finally destroyed by departing American troops.
